A.R. Rahman

A.R. Rahman is an Indian music composer, record producer, singer, songwriter, musician, multi-instrumentalist and philanthropist, popular for his works in Indian cinema; predominantly in Tamil. He is known for his fusion of Indian classical music with electronic music and world music influences. He has won two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, fifteen Filmfare Awards and seventeen Filmfare Awards South. In 2010, the Indian government conferred him with the Padma Bhushan, the nation’s third-highest civilian award.

 

Rahman was born in Chennai, India, in 1967. He began his musical training at a young age, learning to play the piano and violin. He later studied Western classical music at the Trinity College of Music in London. After graduating, Rahman returned to India and began composing music for films.
