Amrita Rao is an Indian actress who works in Hindi films. She made her acting debut with the 2002 film Ab Ke Baras, which earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She won the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female for her portrayal of a college student in the 2003 romantic drama Ishq Vishk, her first commercial success.

Rao was born in Mumbai, India, on June 7, 1981. She is the younger sister of actress Preetika Rao. Rao studied at the St. Joseph’s Convent School in Bandra, Mumbai. She then attended the Mithibai College of Arts, Commerce and Economics, where she studied economics.
