Sona holds a BTech degree in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar, and an MBA degree in Marketing & Systems from Symbiosis Centre for Management & HRD, Pune. Prior to her music career, she worked as a brand manager in Marico, handling brands like Parachute & Mediker.   Sona’s journey in the music industry began with advertising jingles. She gained popularity for her jingle for Tata Salt – “Kal Ka Bharat Hai,” and her song “Paas Aao Na” for Unilever’s Close Up campaign, which was recorded in multiple languages and aired in 13 countries for four consecutive years. In 2007, she released her debut album “Sona” on Sony Records, which explored various musical styles such as rock, rhythm and blues, flamenco, Hindustani, Baul, and Romani music.   She has released several singles and songs for Bollywood films. Some of her notable works include the song “Bedardi Raja” from the movie “Delhi Belly” produced by Aamir Khan, the theme songs “Mujhe Kya Bechega Rupaiya” and “Ghar Yaad Aata Hai Mujhe” for the TV show “Satyamev Jayate,” and the song “Jiya Laage Na” from the soundtrack of the film “Talaash.” Sona is known for her electric live performances and has played at various venues, including the Lincoln Center in New York and stadium crowds in India. Sona Mohapatra gained mainstream prominence through her appearances on the talk show “Satyamev Jayate” hosted by Aamir Khan. She frequently performed as a lead singer and was also the executive producer of the musical project associated with the show. Her cameo performances on the show garnered millions of views online.
